Anthony Dirrell vs. Badou Jack this Friday, April 24th on Spike TV

dirrell23134By Scott Gilfoid: This Friday on April 24th, WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell (27-0-1, 22 KOs) will be performing on Spike TV on Premier Boxing Champions against the eager #8 WBC challenger Badou Jack (18-1-1, 12 KOs) at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois.

This fight has the makings of an exciting affair as long as it lasts. Jack, 31, is getting his first and possibly his last shot at a title, and he wants to make sure that he makes the most of it. If Dirrell knocks Jack out like a lot of boxing fans see happening, then it’s possible that Jack will never get another world title shot.

dirrell-yamada442(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Scott Gilfoid: In a little over two weeks, WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell (27-0-1, 22 KOs) will be putting his unbeaten record on the line in showcase fight against Badou Jack (18-1-1, 12 KOs) on April 25th at the UIC Pavilion, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. This is Dirrell’s first title defense of his WBC belt that he won off of former WBC champion Sakio Bika last year, and Dirrell wants to put on an impressive performance.

Jack, 31, has the power and the talent to make this an interesting fight for a while. It’s going to be a good fight for as long as it lasts because Jack is one of those types of fighters who is willing to go out on his shield. He’s looked really good in his last two fights in beating Francisco Sierra and Jason Escalera. He came out swinging in both of those fights and put a real hurting on them in the process of picking up the victories.

Groves will have an edge against Dirrell, says Haye

groves8By Scott Gilfoid: David Haye believes that former two time world title challenger George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs) will have an edge against WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell (27-0-1, 22 KOs) when they face each other later on this year due to Groves having sparred both Anthony and his brother Andre Dirrell in the past four years ago in 2011 in Miami, Florida.

Haye says he was at the sparring sessions that took place four years ago, and that the then 22-year-old Groves was able to fight competitively against both Dirrell brothers during the sessions.

Hearn not pleased with Groves fighting Dirrell rather than DeGale

groves95By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn can’t quite fathom why former two time world title challenger George Groves is electing to fight for a world title against Anthony Dirrell instead of fighting his guy James DeGale in a non-world title fight that would possibly make more money for Groves.

Hearn badly wants to make the DeGale-Groves II rematch in order to make money for the two fighters, and to give his fighter DeGale a chance to avenge his loss from four years ago. It doesn’t look like that’s going to happen for now, because Groves wants a chance to win the WBC 168 pound title from the hard-hitting Dirrell before he looks to face DeGale in a possible unification match in the summer.

Anthony Dirrell: George Groves will be knocked out after my next title defense

dirrell421111(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Scott Gilfoid: After hearing noise from Sauerland Events, the promoters for former two time world title challenger George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs), as well as many of the fans of Groves, WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell (29-0-1, 22 KOs) took to his Instagram account to tell his boxing fans that he plans on knocking Groves out soon after he gets done with his optional title defense.

Dirrell hasn’t yet said who he plans on fighting for his first defense, but Badou Jack is one name that has popped up around the boxing world. It’s likely to be someone else that gets the fight, but even if Dirrell does face Jack, it’s a nice little title defense. Jack is a good fighter, and he should make for an interesting fight.

Voluntary defences – Another boxing problem

dirrell-yamada442(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Gav Duthie: I used to like the idea of governing bodies allowing voluntary defences to give the fans a big fight. Recently however it seems to be used as a tool to avoid awkward mandatory opponents which is becoming frustrating. Specifically I am referring to Anthony Dirrell 27-0-1 (22) and George Groves   21-2 (15) but the situation is universal.

Anthony has been bemoaning the fact that Groves is his mandatory in the first place which is fair enough but rumor is his voluntary opponent might be Badou Jack 18-1-1 (12).

Poor Choice
