Broner: Malignaggi sent the police on me

broner111By Scott Gilfoid: WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) is claiming that WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi is behind his arrest in Miami, Florida on Monday for a case of battery. Broner believes that Malignaggi is so scared to fight him on June 22nd that he contacted the police and then they came down and arrested him over nothing.

Broner said to RingTV “I’m going to beat the s*** out of Paulie. He’s so scared to fight me that he sent some police to arrest me for nothing…he sent somebody to arrest me and put some fake charges on me…the fight is going to happen.”

Malignaggi laughed at Broner’s claims, and says the reason why Broner was arrested was because he got into a “street altercation” over the rental Rolls Royce Broner was driving around Miami on Monday.

broner54By Allan Fox: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer reportedly isn’t pleased with the news that Curtis Jackson aka “50 Cent”, is interested in signing WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) to his SMS Promotions stable.

Broner: I’ll kick Malignaggi’s backside and then we can be friends

malignaggi434By Scott Gilfoid: WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) says he and WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) can still be friends after he whips him on June 22nd on Showtime at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, USA.

Broner told Dan Rafael “I’ll kick his a** and then we can be friends.”

As for Broner no longer fighting on HBO, Broner said “I’m still Mr. HBO and I always will be.”

Broner’s promoters at Golden Boy have been 86ed by HBO, and will no longer be able to have their fighters televised on the network. It seems kind of a complicated issue that goes a lot deeper than simply HBO losing Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to Showtime.

Broner-Malignaggi on Showtime to compete against Chavez Jr’s fight on HBO on 6/22

broner56By Scott Gilfoid: It looks like Showtime and HBO will be having competing fight cards on the June 22nd when WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi defends his title against Adrien Broner on Showtime, and former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. faces an opponent still to be determined on HBO on the same night.

According to Steve Kim, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer wants the June 22nd date for Malignaggi-Broner on Showtime, and he’s not going to budge from that date. If anyone is going to move from that date it’s going to have to be the Top Rank promoted Chavez Jr.

Broner vs. Malignaggi to be televised by Showtime on June 22nd

broner545By Allan Fox: The June 22nd fight between WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) and Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) won’t be televised by HBO when the two fighters meet at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York, USA. Instead, the fight will be aired by Showtime, according to Dan Rafael and Kevin Iole.

They’re reporting that HBO will no longer be televising Golden Boy Promotions fighters for some reason. They’ll focus on showing other fighters from other promotional companies like Top Rank instead.

This is a huge move for HBO because they’ve been building up the 23-year-old Broner by televising all of his fights in the past two years, and he could possibly become a huge pay-per-view star in the future. If Broner becomes boxing’s #1 fighter in the future, HBO may wish they were still televising Broner’s fights.
