John Fury Refuses to Attend Tyson Fury’s Joshua Fight

By Boxing News 24 Desk - 10/05/2026 - Comments

John Fury is refusing to attend Tyson Fury’s fight with Anthony Joshua, claiming he cannot stomach the figures running the show and refuses to hang around without an official role. Rather than watching the broadcast live, the patriarch plans to wait by the phone for the final result.

“I’ll be honest with you, no. No, I won’t be attending,” John told Playbook Boxing. “Let me tell you, you have more chance of seeing a cow fly than me bothering with it.”

This goes beyond dodging the media crush. John refuses to sit ringside as an ordinary ticket holder while outside handlers run Tyson’s corner.

“I don’t like the people in it, and I know accidents can happen. I’m not involved, so I don’t want to go to the fight,” he continued. “I don’t need validation to go to a boxing match and sit there and be an absolute spare p**** at the wedding.”

His admission of having no official capacity tells the entire story. John ties his presence directly to authority; stripped of control, he sees zero value in showing up. His wedding analogy makes that crystal clear, signaling that he refuses to occupy a seat unless he is dictating terms.

Being a father in the arena carries plenty of meaning on its own.

Backing his boy should not depend on calling the shots in training, barking orders from the corner, or liking every promoter and trainer in the building. John makes it clear that bruised pride over camp authority is enough to keep him home on fight night.

Tyson holds total authority to assemble whatever team he trusts to handle fight preparation and ring instructions. John griping from the sidelines does not make those camp decisions flawed. The quality of Tyson’s camp will show under the lights, regardless of his father feeling frozen out.

His cryptic comment about accidents provides zero proof that the organizers issued an actual ban, leaving the drama strictly self-generated.

“I’ll be doing what his mother does,” John added. “I’ll wait for somebody to tell me who wins the fight.”

Shutting off the live broadcast turns his absence into a total boycott. John would rather wait for a delayed phone call than watch his son trade punches, putting his personal grudge ahead of the actual event. His protest is obvious, proving that without an active role on the headset or in the corner, he simply has no stomach to tune in.
