Tyson Fury reportedly suffered a cut during sparring, making it necessary for his undisputed heavyweight championship fight on February 17th against Oleksandr Usyk to be postponed.

This injury will fuel speculation that Fury is getting knocked around in camp for this fight, making some boxing fans believe that his dreadfully bad performance last October against former UFC champion Francis Ngannou wasn’t just an aberration. It was a signal that Fury is past it.

Fury Suffers Sparring Injury:

WBC heavyweight champion Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) suffered a cut during sparring. It’s unknown how badly the 35-year-old was cut or who the sparring partner was who caused the damage.

There have been rumors that Fury had been getting knocked down by his sparring partners, and one of them, cruiserweight Jai Opetaia, was recently sent home after five rounds of work with Tyson.

When a devasting puncher is bounced out of training camp after five rounds, it sends a signal to fans that the guy is too dangerous for the champion.

Revised Date Unsure

There isn’t an update for the rescheduling of the Fury vs. Usyk clash as of yet. It’ll obviously depend on Fury’s healing process. If he heals quickly without any setbacks, the match could take place within several months.

Obviously, fans will wonder whether the injury for Fury is legit or not, as they’ll assume that, given the rumors of him being dropped twice by Opetaia and by other sparring partners, he needs more preparation time for Usyk.

Fury’s age could slow the healing process because he’s not a spring chicken anymore at 35, and he might not heal up as fast as a younger fighter would. That’s the problem with older fighters.

They suffer injuries at the drop of the hat, causing fights to be postponed. The Saudis wanted this fight.

All we can hope for is Fury doesn’t continue to get hurt repeatedly, as it could be difficult for Usyk to have his career put in suspended animation.

Fans Left Disappointed

Fans on social media are up in arms about Fury’s injury, as they were looking forward to seeing him battle the undefeated IBF, WBA & WBO heavyweight champion Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) for the undisputed championship on February 17th at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Ideally, a substitute could step in and face Usyk if Fury is going to be out for an extended period of time with injury.
