Fury’s Camp in Question: Rumors Swirl After Sparring Beatdowns

Tyson Fury reportedly is having a devil of a time preparing for his undisputed heavyweight clash with IBF/WBA/WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk on February 17th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Johnny Nelson has his ear to the ground and is hearing that WBC champion Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) has been getting the living daylights beaten out of him in sparring for this fight, and not just in the five rounds that he did against cruiserweight Jai Opetaia.

Fury is getting turned over on the regular in camp, which has the former cruiserweight champion Nelson questioning whether the old dog is past it at age 35.

Nelson says that he gave Fury a pass for his recent poor showing against ex-UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou last October, believing that he took him lightly and didn’t train hard. But if Fury did train hard, as his coach Andy Lee says he did, then his “legs are gone.”

Nelson Spills the Tea

“Fury-Usyk? Fury, I’m hearing rumors about what’s happening in the camp,” said Johnny Nelson to talkSPORT Boxing, spilling the dirt about Tyson Fury getting battered in training camp by his sparring partners in preparation for his undisputed heavyweight championship fight against Oleksandr Usyk on February 17th.

It was bound to happen with Fury. If you’ve been watching him fight in the last six years, his legs have been gone since 2018, and that’s why he’s become an ugly mauler who just leans on his opponents. Fury does this because he can’t move anymore.

Is Time Catching Up?

“I’m hearing he’s getting turned over,” Nelson continued about Fury. “So this thing about Jai Opetaia when he’s in the gym. He got put on his [backside]. Yeah, that’s what I’m hearing. I’m thinking, ‘Has he [Fury] taken his eye off the ball, or has time caught up to him?’

“So, in regards to his last fight [against Francis Ngannou], I put that down to him disrespecting the man in front of him. I said, ‘If you’re to believe he had the best training camp, his legs are gone.’ So, if I’ve got it wrong, his legs are gone.

Can Fury Beat The Odds?

“I expect Tyson Fury to beat Oleksandr Usyk, but the Tyson Fury that boxed Ngannou in his last fight, gets knocked out. If that Tyson Fury turns up, he’s done. It’s over,” said Nelson.
