Desperation dance: Caleb Plant calls out Jermall Charlo – will he give him a helping hand?

Caleb Plant took to social media today to call out Jermall Charlo for a fight, which doesn’t seem all that likely to happen.

Old ‘Sweethands’ Plant has picked the wrong time to ask Jermall for a career pick-me-up, considering he’s on the precipice of getting a life-changing money fight against Canelo Alvarez.

The down-in-his-luck former IBF super middleweight champion ‘Sweethands’ Plant (22-2, 13 KOs), who has lost two out of his last three fights, warned the unbeaten Jermall not to say his name unless he wants to fight him.

Charlo hasn’t bothered talking up a fight with Plant, as he’s looking for bigger game, not a struggling fighter with a 1-2 record in his last three fights. There’s no gain for Jermall fighting Plant as one of Canelo’s crumbs.

Plant’s recent setbacks against David Benavidez & Canelo Alvarez have reduced him to the level of a ‘Who needs him club’ type of fighter, and he is trying to encourage Jermall into giving him a helping hand for a career boost.

Caleb Plant: @ futureofboxing: No sense talking about what you “plan” on doing if you don’t “plan” on fighting me. Don’t even stutter my name anymore unless you want to make it official. I’m not hard to find 🤞🏻🤞🏻 @ revengetour,” said Plant on Instagram.

The way that Canelo and ‘The Mexican Monster’ Benavidez dominated Plant, beating the brakes off of him, leaving him in a position where he’s reduced to asking Jermall for help, it’s sad to see.

Plant is starting to understand how bleak his career situation is after those two crushing defeats. Hence, he’s openly asking Jermall for a pick-me-up.

Unfortunately for the needy 32-year-old Plant, Jermall’s career is going well, as he just won his return fight against Jose Benavidez Jr. and is one of the three fighters in the pipeline for a potential mega-money fight against superstar Canelo Alvarez next May on Cinco de Mayo.

There’s nothing for Charlo to gain from fighting Plant, who has already been beaten repeatedly, and at this point, he’s just a stepping stone for the younger lions but not for an unbeaten world champion on the doorstep to fight against Canelo.

If Jermall loses to Canelo, Plant could be in luck and be used as a rebuilding opponent for Charlo. But other than that, why would Jermall want to risk fighting him or anyone with a pulse that could potentially mess things up for him?
