Eddy Reynoso: Ryan Garcia will knockout Luke Campbell

By Sean Jones: Ryan Garcia’s trainer Eddy Reynoso is making an early prediction in picking his fighter to KO Luke Campbell. Ryan and Campbell are in negotiations right now for a potential fight for the interim WBC lightweight title later in 2020.

The Campbell-Garcia winner will be mandatory to WBC 135lb champion Devin Haney.

For Reynoso to speak out so early in giving a prediction, it suggests that he understands what the 21-year-old King Ryan (20-0, 17 KOs) is up against in taking on Campbell (20-3, 16 KOs).

Ryan doesn’t have to face Campbell if he doesn’t want to. It’s the World Boxing Council that ordered the Garcia vs. Campbell fight this week, as they’ve set up a mini-tournament at 135. They need a famous fighter like Ryan, to take part in it.

Eddy Reynoso will be in the doghouse if Ryan Garcia loses

Reynoso likely has been keeping up on the comments boxing fans have been making about the Campbell vs. Garcia fight. He’s got to know that Garcia is taking a tremendous step up in class against Luke.

There’s a lot to lose for King Ryan, as well as Reynoso. If Ryan gets embarrassed by Campbell, it’s going to reflect on his coach Reynoso, who is the captain of the ship. Ultimately, it comes down to Reynoso in what happens to Ryan Garcia. If Ryan shines, then Reynoso will get full credit for turning him into a star.

A brutal knockout win for Campbell will put Reynoso in the doghouse, resulting in a lot of fans saying Ryan should dump his new trainer. What would be wrong is if Campbell puts on a masterclass performance and humiliates Ryan Garcia in the same way Tyson Fury humbled Deontay Wilder.

A loss like that for the Golden Boy Promoted star Garcia would make it difficult for him to come back from in the future. I mean, look at Wilder. He still hasn’t come back into the spotlight since his seventh-round drubbing by Fury last February.

A considerable number of boxing fans are picking the more experienced 32-year-old Campbell to beat Garcia. Campbell has also spoken out, saying that he’s going to knockout Ryan. He’s looked at Ryan’s game, and he’s not impressed with what he’s seen from him other than his speed and power.

Garcia had to take the Campbell fight

Ryan had no other option but to take the fight with Campbell, given all the bold-talking that he’s done on social media. Had Ryan backed down and told the WBC he won’t face Campbell; boxing fans would say that he’s chicken and lacks the courage to face the British fighter.

The WBC isn’t doing the young Garcia any favors by ordering him to fight Campbell at this primary stage in his career. Although Ryan Garcia is famous on social media, he hasn’t done anything inside the ring to prove that he deserves his massive following.

There are some fights that you’ve got to walk away from if you’re smart, and understand your situation. The Campbell fight might be an example of a contest that Ryan Garcia would be better off walking away from right now. Ryan would lose a lot of boxing fans if he backed out now, but he might gain them back if he revisits the Campbell matchup in a year or two.

Why that might not be a good idea for Ryan to do that is because of the age of Campbell, and the chances that he could lose to someone.
