Deontay Wilder: I would have KO’d Klitschko

1-Screen Shot 2015-09-26 at 10.51.17 PMBy Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs) got a chance to see last Saturday’s fight between IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) and Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs), and he was anything but impressed with the lack of action in the fight.

Wilder says the fight was very, very boring to watch, and that the two fighters looked more like dancers than boxers in the ring. Wilder, 6’7”, says he would have knocked the 39-year-old Wladimir out if it had been him in the ring with him, because he would have thrown too many power punches for Wladimir to deal with. Wladimir wasn’t throwing anything in the fight and was just moving around and looking scared.

In a way, Deontay is glad that it was Fury that beat Klitschko, because he feels he wouldn’t have gotten any credit for beating him due to Klitschko’s advanced age. Deontay thinks that everybody would have said that Klitschko was over-the-hill, and that’s the only reason why he was able to beat him. That’s what boxing fans are saying right now about Fury’s win over Wladimir.

They’re not giving Fury much credit because Wladimir looked like an old man in the ring against him. It wasn’t just this fight though. Wladimir looked old in his previous bout against Bryant Jennings last April. Jennings was there to be hit all night long in that 12 round fight at Madison Square Garden, and Klitschko just couldn’t pull the trigger on his shots. It was sad to watch.

“I got a chance to see it, of course, man. I wasn’t happy about it. It was the most boring fight in world history…all they were doing was dancing,” Wider said to Fighthype.com. “It is a bittersweet moment. The bitter part about it is I definitely wanted to be the one to dethrone him in a great fashion. ”

It’s no big deal that Wilder wasn’t the one to get the win over Klitschko. As bad as Fury and Klitschko both looked last Saturday, believe me, Fury isn’t getting much credit at all for the win. That’s why so many heavyweights want to get a crack at Fury. They see weakness in him and they feel they can beat this guy with ease. It’s not like it was when Wladimir was in his prime and the top heavyweights weren’t eager to face him.

The thing with Fury is he’s going to have to have one title defense where he has a good chance of winning against Klitschko next up. If Fury wins that fight, then he’s going to have to make a difficult decision whether to try and milk his titles if the sanctioning bodies will allow him to by facing some bottom feeders, or to start taking on some of the dangerous fighters in the division like Deontay.

“I’m kind of happy Tyson beat him because if I would have beat Wladimir, they would have said he’s past his prime and he’s old. I would have knocked him out. If he performed like that against me, it would have been over. I throw too many punches. I would have got verbal abuse from people saying he was too old.”

I totally agree with Mr. Wilder. I think he would have made easy work of Wladimir if he had been in the ring with him last Saturday. Part of the reason why I think it would have been a super easy fight for Deontay is because it would have been a lot of one-way traffic with Deontay throwing all the punches, because Wladimir wouldn’t have been throwing anything.

If Wladimir fought like he did against Fury, the only one who would have been throwing punches in the fight would have been Deontay. If you look at Deontay’s past fights, fighters don’t last long against him when they don’t throw punches like Wladimir.

It’s too easy for Deontay when he’s got a scared rabbit in the ring with him or someone who is mentally/physically not capable of throwing punches for some odd reason.

Well, it’s going to be interesting to see how long Fury holds onto his titles he won off of Klitschko. I sure as heck don’t see Fury giving Deontay a shot at fighting him.

No way do I see Fury taking a fight against Wilder because it would be over with too quickly, because Fury was little more than a taller version of Wladimir last Saturday night, except Fury was running around the ring most of the fight trying to keep away from Wladimir. Frankly, it was pitiful to watch.
