By Dan Ambrose: After failing to make weight on his first attempt on the scale in coming in at 147.2lbs, Brandon Rios (33-2-1, 24 KOs) was finally able to hit the mark a little over a 40 minutes later in stripping nude to get to the 147lb limit for his fight on Saturday night against WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (32-1-1, 12 KOs) at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It would have been bad for Rios had he not been able to make the weight for the fight, which will be televised on HBO Boxing.

“Rios is back to re-weigh. #Bradley-Rios #boxing. Rios strips nude. 147 on the dot. We got a fight!!!” Dan Rafael said on his Twitter. “Arum breaks out into big smile and almost sings as Rios makes weight. Hilarious. Rios says he was over because ‘I had to take a [expletive] and they called me to weigh-in.’”

Now the 29-year-old Rios will have 24 hours to rehydrate in a hurry to get up to what will likely be the mid-160s by the time he steps foot inside the ring tomorrow night. Bradley will likely be in the 160s as well, but I see Rios being the heavier guy tomorrow night.

Rios needs to figure out how he’s going to deal with all the movement, pot shots and holding that Bradley will likely be using in the fight. Bradley certainly isn’t going to be standing in the pocket looking to slug it out tomorrow night. Bradley didn’t sign on trainer Teddy Atlas just to continue to fight with the same old fighting style that he’s always had in the past.

Bradley’s going to try something different when he gets inside the ring, and that means he’s going to be looking to box all night long. I think Bradley being staggered by the light hitting Jessie Vargas in the 12th round last June may have shaken him up to the point where he finally realized that he can no longer go toe-to-toe with his opponents. When a feather-fisted light welterweight like Jessie Vargas is able to shake you up, then it’s clear that you can’t continue to trade shots with your opposition.

Bradley was nailed repeatedly by Diego Chaves in their fight last December, and he was pretty worn down by him. The thing is Bradley hasn’t faced any real big welterweights since moving up to the 147lb division in 2012. He’s had two fights against a small Manny Pacquiao, who is really little more than a light welterweight, and he’s had fights against 140lb fighters Ruslan Provodnikov, Juan Manuel Marquez and Jessie Vargas.

Bradley’s fight on Saturday night will be against a fighter who basically ate his way out of the lightweight division in Rios. Bradley isn’t facing a natural welterweight like Kell Brook, Errol Spence, Keith Thurman or Shawn Porter.

I think all those guys would be too strong for Bradley to deal with. That’s why it’s a good thing that he’s changing his fighting style to become more elusive so he’ll stop taking punishment and getting hurt. Whether Bradley can beat a guy like Rios by being mobile remains to be seen. Rios cuts off the ring pretty well, and he might be able to trap the aging Bradley and force him to slug it out tomorrow night.
