Tyson Fury compares himself to Muhammad Ali

furyBy Scott Gilfoid: In a sign that Tyson Fury (24-0, 18 KOs) has completely lost the plot, he’s now comparing himself to boxing great Muhammad Ali, and saying that if he’s not the man to fill the boots that were left behind that there won’t be anyone else that can step in to fill them for a long time to come.

The untested and some would say chinny Fury is facing IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) next month on November 28th at the ESPRIT Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany. Fury has been yacking about wanting a title shot against Wladimir for years now, and he’s finally about to get his big shot at his belts.

Fury thinks he’s the man to unseat the 39-year-old Klitschko, who he feels is nearing the end of his career. The problem is Fury doesn’t much in the way of punching power or talent to do the job. He’s not a very technical fighter, he can’t punch, and he mainly wins through size alone. It also helps that Fury has faced poor opposition his entire career.

His opponent he’s faced is the flawed wide bodied fighter Dereck Chisora. Fury hasn’t faced anyone really dangerous like Dillian Whyte, Bryant Jennings, Erkan Teper, Deontay Wilder. I can just imagine what would happen if Fury had to face one of those guys. I don’t think it would be pretty.

“Everything he [Wladimir] does is manufactured. Everything I do is natural, off the cuff,” Fury said to Sky Sports. “Nobody tells me what to do. On the night, you’ll have the most colorful and controversial fighter since Ali, and that’s what the world is waiting for. If I ain’t the main to fill the boots, we’ll be waiting for a hell of a long time, because all I see is robots, people being told what to say. So the world needs me to change the heavyweight landscape,” Fury said.

Fury can certainly yap with the best of them, but he’s no Ali. In fact. Fury is no Jerry Quarry, Jimmy Ellis, Bob Foster or Joe Frazier. I see Fury as more of a Joe Bugner type of fighter in terms of talent.

Fury can flap his gums well, but I just don’t see him having the talent to do much more than that. But if you could put Fury’s mouth on someone like Whyte, he’d be blabbering all day long about this or that, and I think he would get a lot more attention than he does. But it’s just too bad that Fury doesn’t have Whyte’s talent, because he’d be great.

Obviously, he’d still not be another Ali, but he’d definitely get a lot of attention in the boxing world. But the way I see it, Fury will become famous for losing to Wladimir rather than winning. Maybe I should infamous.

I don’t see Fury doing well at all on November 28th, and I picture him getting planted face first on the canvas in one of those highlight real knockouts. Wladimir will either catch Fury with a big left hook or right hand that knocks him senseless, causing him to fall face first on the canvas. The fight will then be stopped immediately. That’s my prediction.
