Jeff Mayweather: “Keith Thurman can’t do anything for Floyd as far as PPV numbers”

IMG_4748(Photo credit: Przemek Garczarczyk) By Danny Esch: The war of words continues from members of the Floyd Mayweather camp and Keith “One Time” Thurman now on a week by week basis. Floyd Mayweather Sr. has gone on record and said that his son Floyd Mayweather Jr. would beat Keith Thurman and just recently Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe also went on record to say that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is not even thinking about him (Thurman).

Uncle Jeff Mayweather has now voiced his opinion on WBA Welterweight Champion Keith “One Time” Thurman via Dontae’s Boxing Nation.

Jeff Mayweather: “Keith Thurman is begging to get the fight with Floyd and Amir Khan is also begging to get a fight but the second Floyd said I’m relinquishing my titles and you (Thurman) and Errol Spence fight that became a problem and now you don’t want to fight Errol Spence”.

Donate: “So you think he (Thurman) should take that fight against Errol Spence”?

Jeff Mayweather: I mean, yeah he (Thurman) should take that fight and one thing is this in boxing if you are the best at what you claim you are Fight whoever calls you out but when you want to talk about Floyd it’s a whole different story it’s not about you calling him (Floyd) out because Keith Thurman can’t do nothing for Floyd in terms of numbers when it comes to Pay-Per view.
Jeff Mayweather also made a surprising statement right after to Dontae that makes me doubt Floyd Mayweather’s admission that he wishes to fight Andre Berto or Karim Mayfield.

Jeff Mayweather: “I hate to say it and it’s sadly true but NO African American fighter today can help Floyd if he fought one of them in terms of promoting a fight”.

Dontae: “But I gotta say Jeff Floyd broke PPV records with Mosley though

Jeff Mayweather: “Yeah but that fight was 100 years ago and I’m talking about today.”

So after viewing the whole video I did notice that Jeff Mayweather never said that Keith Thurman was not a good fighter or he was not proven enough or he was a bum. Jeff Mayweather’s only reason for Floyd not fighting Keith Thurman was because Thurman does not have good Pay-Per View numbers. If we were to use Jeff Mayweather theory on Floyd Mayweather’s an opponent having “Good” Pay per View numbers than my question is did the following Mayweather opponents have good or decent PPV numbers such as Ortiz, Guerrero, Canelo, and Maidana before they fought Floyd Mayweather or were they even fighting on PPV? If Keith Thurman was a Latin fighter would he have been on the Floyd Mayweather 48-0 list?

Jeff Mayweather claims that Keith Thurman just wants a pay day like Amir Khan but the difference is that Keith Thurman was Floyd Mayweather’s mandatory when he fought Marcos Maidana the first time and instead of fighting Thurman surprisingly Floyd Mayweather gave Maidana a rematch which he had not done since the Castillo fight.

So the landscape of boxing now has changed from being worthy of fighting the reigning King based on your skills and fighting all the way to the number one spot to now it is based on who has “Good” Pay-per view numbers but even that is only called into play when it is convenient. Lastly on that note I say thank God for the PBC on free T.V. so Fighters and their diehard fans can stop using the infamous Pay-Per View Excuse to dodge certain fighters

Is Berto or Mayfield really going to happen now Jeff ? Or was it Amir Khan all along
