Khan to meet with Golden Boy Promotions next week about next fight

Amir “King” Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) will be going over to Golden Boy Promotions headquarters next week to decide on what’s going to happen as far as his next fight. Hopefully, Golden Boy will float the idea of Khan fighting Adrien Broner on May 3rd in order to let the bigger fight between Mayweather and Marcos Maidana take place in the main event. I sure hope Khan doesn’t hold a grudge about Mayweather for changing his mind about wanting to fight the winner of his poll. Khan would be doing his career a big favor if he would agree to fight Broner on the Mayweather-Broner undercard.

Khan had assumed that he was going to be facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 3rd after Khan beat Marcos Maidana in the Mayweather Promotions website poll a week ago. However, it looks like Mayweather might have changed his mind about taking the fight with Khan due to the tremendous negative response from fans about Khan getting the fight with him instead of the arguably more deserving Maidana.

Many fans prefer to see Mayweather fight Maidana because of his big win over Adrien Broner last December, and because he’s done a lot more with his career recently compared to the inactive Khan.

Khan said on his social medial site: “Meeting @GoldenBoyBoxing next week to see what my next moves are. Sorry to keep you all waiting. Left this with my team and golden boy promotions. Don’t want to disappoint fans and keep them waiting, & don’t want to keep myself waiting.”

Mayweather has got to do what’s right for his career in picking the perfect opponent for his May 3rd fight date, because the late thing he needs is to choose Khan and end up turning off boxing fans.

In just looking at the boxing forums, I’ve lost track of all the people who’ve said that they won’t bother purchasing the Mayweather-Khan fight on PPV if that’s the direction that Mayweather goes in for his next fight. These fans don’t want to pay to see a mismatch. But if Khan would do the right thing by agreeing to fight on Mayweather’s undercard against Broner, it would make for a potentially great card. It seems pretty cut dried to me. A Mayweather-Maidana & Broner-Khan fight on May 3rd is by far the best possible option. You can’t sell a Mayweather-Khan fight card to fans, even if you placed Broner vs. Maidana II on the undercard, because fans would realize that they’ll be seeing two mismatches. Mayweather will destroy Khan and Maidana will beat Broner again.
