Chisora: Fury or Price are getting knocked out if they face me on February 8th

By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight Dereck Chisora (19-4, 13 KOs) will be back in the ring on February 8th at the Copper Box Arena in London, UK, against an opponent still to be determined. Chisora and his promoter both hope it’ll be either Tyson Fury or David Price, but that’s not likely to happen.

Those guys are being taken on different paths than Chisora right now. Fury already easily beat Chisora two years ago, and he doesn’t want to waste time fighting the same guys he already whipped easily. Fury had been thinking about wanting to fight Deontay Wilder, but that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen due to Fury and his promoter growing quiet after an initial conversation with Golden Boy Promotions.

Chisora said via the Mirror “I don’t care who’s in the opposite corner on February 8. It can be David Price or Tyson Fury. I want that world title and if either of them are in my way, they are getting knocked out.”

Let’s be clear on this; if Chisora were to fight either Price or Fury, he’d likely lose badly. To be sure, Price’s career isn’t going so well right now due to him losing his last two fights to Tony Thompson, but that guy is a much better heavyweight than Chisora and he’s got much more height and reach than Chisora at 6’5” compared to the 6’1” Chisora. The 6’8” Price’s size and power would be a nightmare for Chisora.

Heck, Chisora almost got knocked out by his last 2nd tier opponent Ondrej Pala last Saturday night. As bad as Chisora looked in that fight the last thing he should be doing is bragging about how he can beat Fury or Price. Right now, Chisora looks like he’s lost whatever little punch resistance that he once had after his stoppage loss to David Haye. I see Chisora getting knocked out once he steps it up against an actual contender instead of the 2nd tier fodder he’s been fighting.

It might be better for Chisora to stay far away from the likes of Price and Fury because those guys are so big and they would find a way to beat him. Fury already did it, and I suspect the 2nd time would be even easier than the first because Chisora seems a little chinny now after Haye did a number on him. Price, with his power, would have an excellent chance of putting Chisora down early and often until the referee grew tired off dusting Chisora off after his knockdowns and decided to halt the fight.

Chisora will be fighting on February 8th, but it sure as heck won’t be against Fury or Price. It’ll most likely be against another weak 2nd tier guy to pad his record.
