Mayweather Sr: Floyd Jr. deserves an easy fight against Khan

floyd734By Scott Gilfoid: Floyd Mayweather Sr. thinks that his son Floyd Jr. has earned an easy fight for his next bout on Cinco de Mayo next year on May 3rd, and he thinks that Amir Khan is the perfect easy opponent for Floyd Jr. to beat. Mayweather Sr. wants his son to beat up Khan for whatever reason, and he’s hoping that fight will take place next.

Floyd Sr. said to Hustleboss.com “All those tough guys and champions that Floyd fought over the years. I think Floyd deserves an easy a** fight like Amir Khan…I want Floyd to tear his a** out of frame…he better take Floyd because he might not get through [Devon] Alexander.”

So there it is. Floyd Sr. wants his son Mayweather Jr. to smash Khan next as a sort of stay busy fight. I agree with Floyd Sr. that it’s best that Khan fight Mayweather next because if Golden Boy has Khan fight Alexander next, he’ll probably lose badly to him and then never get a chance against Mayweather.

Khan is in a situation where he’ll have to be matched very carefully to keep him from getting beaten again if they want him to fight someone to get fight fans interested in seeing him fight Mayweather. We saw in Khan’s last fight against Julio Diaz that Khan is just too vulnerable to be put in with someone and assume he’s going to be able to walk through him.

The only way that Khan can wins the respect of the fans is if he fights someone good, and if he does that then he’ll probably get beaten badly. Whoever came up with the idea that Khan needed to fight Alexander before facing Mayweather needs to sit back down and have a strong cup of coffee while watching some of Khan’s past fights against the likes of Breidis Prescott, Marcos Maidana, Lamont Peterson, Danny Garcia and Julio Diaz.

Floyd Sr. acknowledges that Khan doesn’t deserve to fight Mayweather, but he just thinks his son deserves one soft job before he goes back to taking on the top fighters in the welterweight or light welterweight division. Floyd Sr. doesn’t want Mayweather to be fighting middleweights like Sergio Martinez. He wants him to stick at 140-147 for his fights.

The one problem with Mayweather fighting Khan is that the pay-per-view numbers will likely be less than 1 million buys due to Khan not having a huge fan base in the U.S. It’s not like the U.S is crawling with Brits that will happily pay to see Khan face Mayweather in huge numbers. There’s not a ton of Brits in the U.S, so Mayweather would be carrying the entire PPV event on his back. He would be literally carrying Khan in the U.S because casual boxing fans won’t know who Khan is for the large part.

It’s still unclear if Khan will get the fight against Mayweather Jr., because Golden Boy Promotions Mayweather Promotions will keep it a secret for as long as possible, but there’s a good chance Khan will be the one that gets the fight.
