Dereck Chisora vs. David Price purse bids ordered

price78By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight champion David Price (15-2, 13 KO’s) is going to have to make up his mind awfully quick whether he wants to defend his British heavyweight strap because the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) has ordered purse bids for a fight between Price and European heavyweight strap holder Dereck Chisora (18-4, 12 KO’s) by November 13th. Chisora-Price must face each other before February 2014.

I see this as more of a formality by the BBBofC because it’s highly doubtful that the 6’8″ Price will choose to keep the British strap, especially now that he’s being forced to defend it against Chisora in order to keep the belt.

Price would have likely jumped at the chance to fight the short, round and hittable Chisora before his consecutive losses to Tony Thompson this year, but with those defeats having hurt his career, there’s little chance that Price will agree to fight Chisora.

It’s possible he could do it, but I don’t see too many promoters making that kind of fight if their fighter was coming off of two straight knockout defeats like Price has.

Chisora has turned his career around with victories over Hector Alfredo Avila, Malik Scott and Edmund Gerber after having been beaten by Robert Helenius, Tyson Fury, Vitali Klitschko and David Haye. We learned from those fights that Chisora isn’t good enough to beat the top guys, but he’s definitely good enough to beat C level fighters like Gerber and Scott.

David Price has the power to KO Chisora just like Haye did, but his stamina is so poor and his chin is very questionable. Price would have to improve his stamina big time to beat a fighter like Chisora, because he would be forcing him to fight at a fast pace that would definitely tax his stamina in a big way. Price’s only chance of winning that kind of fight is to let it all out in the first three rounds to go for a knockout.

I think he could do it if he really laid into Chisora the way that Haye did, but there would be a big risk that Price would run out of gas and get stopped if Chisora was still standing by the 5th round. Price is more of a 4 round fighter still, and if anyone is able to get to make it past the 4th, then they’ve got a decent chance of knocking him out.
