malignaggi34332By Lee Shaw: This Saturday evening June 22nd, WBA World Welterweight champion Paulie ‘Magic Man’ Malignaggi (32-4-0 (7 KO) looks to make his second defence of his title against the highly regarded, predicted future star Adrien ‘The Problem’ Broner (26-0-0 (22 KO) at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn.

The challenger, Broner comes to Brooklyn as an unbeaten fighter who is full of confidence and expecting to head back to Cincinnati as the new welterweight champion of the world. Few people would disagree with Broner having seen him destroy all of his opposition to date in his 26 fight career but is Broner overlooking the talent of the ‘Magic Man’ in his search for future stardom.

Saturday Broner’s first time out at welterweight having stepped up two divisions to challenge for Malignaggi’s title having recently defended his WBC lightweight title against a game but outmatched Gavin Rees who ‘The Problem’ dismantled in a 5th round stoppage as Rees’s corner threw in the towel having seen enough of a beating. Broner will be hoping he is able carry his speed and power with him on the two division leap and continue to dominate opposition in one of the higher profile weight divisions, possibly hoping to chase Floyd Mayweather in the future.

Malignaggi may not have an unbeaten record like Broner but he has been fighting in and around world level for many years and has all the experience to make this the toughest fight of Broner’s career. Paulie’s talents get overlooked by many boxing fans due to low knockout figures on his record but he can cause lots of problems with his quick hand speed and movement but most of all his intelligence in the ring. He is also a very durable fighter with the only stoppages of his career coming against Amir Khan and Ricky Hatton in the 11th round which he can be rightly aggrieved about as he never looked in much trouble.

Many questions have been asked about both fighters in recent months since the announcement, hopefully we will get the answer to most of these this coming Saturday. Can Broner live up to the hype and capture a world title in another weight division, can he look good in winning and retain future star status. Will Malignaggi be able to solve ‘The problem’ that is Adrien Broner and prove that he can still cut it at the top level.

Whatever the result this will be a fantastic fight and one that I for one am looking forward to, as it could prove to be an exciting fight with both fighters having to dig deep to get the win.
