wilder55By Scott Gilfoid: In his step up fight unbeaten American heavyweight Deontay Wilder (27-0, 27 KO’s) is showing he means business by traveling to the UK on April 27th to face former 2000 super heavyweight Olympic gold medalist from Britain Audley Harrison (31-6, 23 KO’s) at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire.

The fact that the 27-year-old Wilder is willing to travel to the 6’6” Harrison’s neck of the woods tells you how much self-belief Wilder has because not too many fighters would be willing to do that.

Wilder is also a former Olympic heavyweight, who captured a bronze medal in the 2008 Olympics despite having a little over 20 amateur fights going into the Olympics when he entered the competition.

This is a step up for Wilder, and it’s only the start for the American talent. His promoters at Golden Boy Promotions are now putting the big 6’7” Wilder in against increasingly better heavyweights and they’d like to get him a title shot by 2014 unless Wilder gets lucky and is selected by one of the Klitschko brothers.

It’s safe to say that Wilder will have to become a mandatory challenger for IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko before he’ll be given a title shot against him because Wladimir has sparred with Wilder and he knows how talented the fighter is. Wilder helped Wladimir get ready for his last opponent Mariusz Wach last year and Wilder quickly emerged as Wladimir’s most valuable sparring partner.

Wilder is going to make easy work of Audley on April 27th. Like usual, Audley and his loyal boxing fans will talk a good fight ahead of time, but once he’s in the ring with Wilder, he’ll likely get toppled over by the first meaningful right hand Wilder hits him with.

Audley isn’t going to be able to take more than one or possible at best of Wilder’s right hands before he staggers and drops to the canvas. Believe me, it won’t take a flurry of shots for Deontay to get Audley out of there like it did with David Haye and David Price. Those guys don’t have Wilder’s one-punch power and it took them a lot longer than it will with Wilder.
