Trout: The crowd can’t help Canelo in the ring on April 20th

austin2By Dan Ambrose: WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-0, 14 KO’s) believes WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) is going to be in deep, deep trouble on April 20th when they meet up in what could be a nearly packed Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Already close to 30,000 tickets have been sold for the fight, and most of them no doubt are Canelo’s loyal fans. You can guess that these same fans will be making themselves heard on April 20th as they attempt to cheer the 22-year-old Canelo on to victory.

Trout said to Fightnews.com “The crowd can’t help him. We’re alone in that ring, and if they think they can get this fish out of water, think again. This fish can moonwalk.”

It’s true. The fans won’t be in the ring to help Canelo close the distance and deal with Trout’s jab and constant movement in the ring on April 20th. They can cheer the flat-footed Canelo, and make him want to slug more, but it’s pointless unless Trout is foolish enough to freeze up and just stand there for Canelo to pound on.

Trout realizes that he can’t fight Canelo’s game and win the fight that way, and he’s not even going to try to do that. Trout was disciplined against Miguel Cotto last December in pounding out a 12 round unanimous decision. Trout sees Canelo as just a bigger version of Cotto, with the same game completely.

It’s true. Canelo is exactly like Cotto except that he doesn’t have as good a jab as him. Trout didn’t try to slug with Cotto because he recognized that was his only way to win the fight. Against a bigger version of Cotto, Trout is going to keep on the move and will keep tattooing the red-haired Canelo with jabs all night long to get a victory.

It’s nice that Canelo will be packing in a huge crowd, but it’s meaningless because Trout doesn’t get unnerved in fighting in front of large crowds, and he doesn’t leave his brains at home when he fights. He knows what he has to do in order to beat Canelo, and he’s going to focus on focus on doing that to get the decision on April 20th.
