McGuigan: Frampton will beat Martinez in style

frampton2By Scott Gilfoid: Barry McGuigan, the adviser for Carl Frampton (15-0, 10 KO’s), thinks he’s going to have too much talent, skills and fire power for EBU super bantamweight Kiko Martinez (27-3, 19 KO’s) in their fight tonight at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

McGuigan said to Sky Sports “Frampton is in the best shape of his life, and he’ll win this fight and win it in style. When he [Martinez] gets hit, he’ll get hit hard because Frampton is a tremendous puncher.”

McGuigan is really getting carried away about Frampton and his power and talent. Frampton has decent power, but he’s not a monster in the ring knocking guys out cold with a single shot, let’s be clear on that. Frampton doesn’t have Guillermo Rigondeaux and Nonito Donaire-like power. Heck, Frampton doesn’t have power as good as his recent opponent Raul Hirales, who I’m sure few boxing fans have ever heard of before. Hirales was a bigger puncher than Frampton, and you could see that the moment the fight started.

In watching the weigh-in between Frampton and Martinez, I noticed that Frampton looked a little cocky. What am I saying? Frampton looks totally cocky, like he knew in his mind that he’s going to win this fight. I think Martinez is going to have a big surprise for Frampton tonight when he knocks that smirk off of his little gob.

You see the thing is, Frampton has been matched against so many fodder opponents that the boy now acts as if he’s the king s***. I think tonight he’s going to come down to earth when Martinez puts it on him and gives him a nice little dose of reality in Belfast. At the very least, Frampton is going to look stressed as he runs around the ring trying not to get hit, and stinking up the joint big time. I can see Frampton winning a decision if he runs, but he’ll let down his fans and be exposed in doing so.
