Froch: Andre Ward is going to be in for a different experience in the UK

ward57By Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch feels things will be much different for WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward the next time they fight in the UK. Froch sees himself avenging his loss from 2011 against Ward.

For some reason Froch thinks he’s going to be able to get Ward over to the UK for their rematch. It’s unclear what gave Froch this impression because Ward has never said anything about wanting to fight Froch in front of his British fans.

Froch said to Sky Sports “The final piece in the jigsaw is Ward. He beat me fair and square first time round but I promise it would be one hell of a different fight here in the UK.”

It won’t be a different fight in the UK. It’s be a worse beating for Froch than it was when he fought Ward in the United States on the East coast because Ward took that fight with a broken left hand, and he wasn’t able to use his left as much as he normally does. With his hand broken, Ward couldn’t throw his left hook, which is his best power punch in his arsenal.

The most Ward could do in the fight was throw left jabs and right hands, and that was more than enough to beat Froch. But next time it’ll be much worse for Froch, so even if his promoter Eddie Hearn is able to lure Ward over to the UK with a promise of big money, Froch is still going to be up against it. Let’s be honest here.

Froch’s fans aren’t going to be out there in the ring protecting him from Ward’s shots, and Froch isn’t going to be able to overwhelm Ward with punches like he did in his fight with Lucian Bute last year in May. Man, if Froch tries throwing flurries against Ward, he’s going to get hurt because Ward will get his shots off faster and end up countering Froch.

It’ll be pretty one-sided. The only way Froch survives and makes it to the 12th is for him to throw one or two shots and then back off immediately to try and avoid Ward’s return fire. That’s about the best Froch can do in the fight because he’s not going to be able to stand in front of Ward for 12 rounds throwing combinations.
