Ward willing to fight Froch in the UK

ward56344By Scott Gilfoid: Just to show you how confident that Andre Ward is in being able to whip Carl Froch for a second time, he said he’s interested in coming over to the UK to destroy Froch in his own country, albeit not in Froch’s home city of Nottingham.

Ward said on Sky Ringside “If I fought Froch again it would be just for his UK fans. ..Froch won’t fight outside of Nottingham in a 10,000 seat arena unless he fights me…we’ll double that number.”

This is good news because Froch has been yapping for the longest time about how Ward owes him a fight in the UK because last time Froch came to the United States to fight Ward on the East coast in Atlantic City, New Jersey during the Super Six tournament. Froch counts that as a home fight for Ward despite the fact that Ward is from Northern California on the West coast of the U.S.

Froch doesn’t seem to realize how big the U.S, and that just because a fighter is popular in one area of the country doesn’t mean that he’s popular on the other side. The East coast of the U.S might as well be another country because the regions are so far apart and the people are so different in their interests in which fighters they follow. You couldn’t sell tickets to a Paulie Malignaggi fight in Oakland, California where Ward lives, yet in New York, Malignaggi attracts a lot of fans.

So basically, the Ward-Froch I fight was really a fight that took place in a neutral venue because there weren’t that many fans there and Ward’s fans were on the West Coast in the Northern California Area.

By Ward volunteering to fight Froch in his own country of England, it shows what a good person Ward is. He doesn’t have to do this because is after all considered to the #1 fighter in the super middleweight division, and it’s not as if his previous fight with Froch was a real home fight for Ward.

Believe me, if the Ward-Froch I fight had taken place at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California, where it should have been staged, there would have been 10,000 Ward fans that would have showed up to root Ward on just as they did when he spanked Mikkel Kessler in the Super Six tournament.

Froch caught a lucky break in the fight being held in Atlantic City, although it was silly to have it placed there both Froch and Ward ended up losing out on a lot of ticket sales because of it being placed there. Froch should have said yes to the fight taking place in Oakland, because at least there money would have been good, and it’s not as if he was going to win the fight anyway.
