Deontay Wilder to make his run for a heavyweight title in 2013

wilder23By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Deontay Wilder (26-0, 26 KO’s) is ready to make his move for a world title shot in 2013, and he’s going to be going after the big names real soon. His promoters at Golden Boy are on board with matching him against the best to see how the talented 27-year-old Wilder does against quality opposition.

Oscar De La Hoya wants Wilder to make some immediate changes in his game in terms of using his jab and moving his head a lot more, but beyond that he sees him as the finished product ready to kick backside and take names.

Wilder’s power is going to enable him to get beyond guys with slightly better boxing skills than him, and he should be able to find success while keeping his impressive knockout string going.

Wilder wants Bryant Jennings first. Whether he gets him or not remains to be seen but that’s the first target on Wilder’s wish list. One thing is for sure, Wilder plans on fighting often in 2013 so that he can pile up a bunch of wins and get ranked high enough to get a title shot against one of the champions.

I’d like to see Wilder face some of these heavyweights in 2013:

Tomasz Adamek
Bryant Jennings
Kubrat Pulev
Steve Cunningham
Alexander Dimitrenko
Tyson Fury
David Price
Magomed Abdusalamov
Johnathon Banks
Seth Mitchell
Alexander Ustinov
Chris Arreola
Bermane Stiverne
David Haye
Ruslan Chagaev
Odlananier Solis
Alexander Povetkin

I think Wilder can beat pretty much all of those fighters without fail. He needs to get in there and show what he’s got so that he can keep improving as a fighter. Right now it’s too easy for Wilder because he’s mowing everyone down with his big right hand shots, but it’ll get a little tougher when he steps it up against those guys. They’ll bring out the best in Wilder, and it’ll be intriguing to see him blossom as a fighter.
Wilder really wants to fight Wladimir Klitschko. That will be a huge fight for Wilder and will enable him to show his talents to boxing fans.
