Image: Tyson Fury: Kingpin strikes a dealBy Jack Tarpey: Promoter Mick Hennessy has somehow pulled another rabbit out of the hat for unbeaten heavyweight contender Tyson Fury’s next fight, after the colossal disappointment of Denis Boystov pulling out of their scheduled December contest, things were certainly looking bleak for Fury with under a month to go and no opponent named.

Thankfully earlier today the announcement was made that team Fury has bagged Kevin Kingpin Johnson for their next battle, Kingpin managed to take WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko the full 12 rounds back in 2009 and on paper is certainly Tyson’s toughest test so far. What makes this more interesting is not only are both fighters big men but both also like to talk big as well, so no doubt the build to this event should provide a few laughs and hopefully plenty of action.

Tyson’s trainer and uncle Peter Fury has done an excellent job in making Tyson realize that he needs knuckle down and take things serious when it comes to preparing for a fight, the wake-up call seemed to happen after the shock knockdown he received from Neven Pavjik where for a moment Fury lost concentration and took a heavy shot straight to the jaw which floored the fan friendly giant. Tyson used to enter the ring with a body that looked less than desirable for a professional boxer, however now thanks to his Uncle and determination he now seems to be ripped and raring to go judging by the latest photos from Twitter.

It is clear Tyson wants to make a statement by approaching world class opposition to tangle in the ring with him, as his nemesis David Price is unfortunately still clearing out the domestic contenders which aren’t doing him any favours with the boxing public. As it is very clear that Price is a league above his handpicked opposition, very similar predicament to USA based giant Deontay Wilder.

This is certainly going to be interesting to see what tactics Fury’s camp apply as they are up against a seasoned pro that can bang, so this shouldn’t a fight where Fury can bully his opponent around the ring like he did with his last victim Vinny Maddalone, I am hoping to see an improved technical aspect to Tyson’s growing armoury of skill.

If Kingpin turns up with the motivation to succeed then this will give the boxing public a clear and precise view on Tyson’s capabilities, as Kingpin on his day can cause trouble for any heavyweight and with only 2 losses to his name one of them being world ruler Vitali Klitschko he certainly is no pushover.
Look forward to your thoughts boxing heads.
