By Dan Ambrose: This Saturday night IBO super middleweight champion Thomas Oosthuizen (20-0, 13 KO’s) will be defending his title against Fulgencio Zuniga (25-5-1, 22 KO’s) at the Emperor’s Palace, Kempton Park, Gauteng, South Africa. This should be a tough but winnable fight for the 24-year-old Oosthuizen, who if he wins will find himself fighting Gennady Golovkin on HBO at Madison Square Garden.

That’s a fight that will be real test for Oosthuizen to show whether he’s got the talent to become one of the better fighters. Golovkin will be moving up in weight to take the fight, but he’s got crushing power that likely will carry up to 168 and give Oosthuizen problems if he can’t avoid Golovkin’s big shots.

The 6’4″ Oosthuizen will have his hands full with Zuniga on Saturday. Zuniga is still fighting on a high level despite his advanced age of 35 and he can be more than a handful if he can draw Oosthuizen into a war. Zuniga likes those types of fights and he’s plenty tough if he can land his big shots. The only guys that have beaten Zuniga have been quality fighters such as Tavoris Cloud, Kelly Pavlik, Daniel Santos, Lucian Bute and Denis Inkin.

Zuniga loses only against the very best. He beats the rest of guys he fights. It’s going to be real test of Oosthuizen to see if he’s got the talent to beat Zuniga. If not then boxing fans will know that Oosthuizen is middle of the road fighter and not capable of fighting at the highest level.

Zuniga won his last fight against Alejandro Berrio by a 7th round knockout last July.

Oosthuizen has beaten Rowland Bryant and Marcus Johnson in his last two fights. Those are good fighters but not close to the top guys at super middleweight. Oosthuizen was held to a draw against Isaac Chilemba in 2010, and didn’t look all that great in beating Aaron Pryor Jr. in September of 2011.
