Image: Mayweather – 50 Cent - Best of EnemiesBy Paul Walsh: Its official “The Money Team” promotions (TMT) is over. The long term alliance of boxer and hip hop superstar is no more. The obvious question is where did it all go so wrong?

After seeing numerous photos and YouTube clips of the seemingly “unbreakable” bond between these two former best friends it’s difficult to see what triggered their demise. Greed, money, egos? Maybe all three or maybe it’s all a publicity stunt and they are both in on it who knows. One thing I do know is there seems to be no love loosed between the two. Both parties went about telling the world just how they feel about one another via Twitter. As I watched the two verbally sparring online I couldn’t help but think how childish and petty this all is.

However in the aftermath, it appears as though 50 has drawn the short straw. Yes he has three of Floyd Mayweather’s fighters in his stable and will begin to promote their fights but it has the feel of the blind leading the blind.
Let’s be frank, 50 cent is not a boxing promoter and never will be but what he does have is money and lots of it. We all know the saying money makes the world go round and if 50 uses his wisely then he could well become a major player in the boxing world. At the moment he is looking very naïve, case in point Yuriorkis Gamboa.

Mayweather Promotions paid a heck of a lot of money to release him from his contract with Top Rank only for 50 to put him back on the undercard of a Top Rank show and then pay Top Rank for the privilege. The only winner in that is Bob Arum, who is probably laughing all the way to the bank. Not only that, current IBF champ Billy Dibb’s next outing is against a relatively unknown.

Not something he would be excited about after signing to what he thought was Mayweather’s company and his future looks bleak as 50 has burnt his bridges with Al Haymon and in turn Golden Boy Promotions. This doesn’t leave him with too many options as Golden Boy are currently holding all the cards when it comes to the top names in boxing. It will be a huge test for 50 cent to avoid another business failure.

No doubt Mayweather will be hurting from this and what will his next Business move be?? He has lost three big fighters from his stable, one of which is calling him out for a showdown. Somehow I think this is just 50 trying to generate hype as I cannot see Mayweather fighting Gamboa, he isn’t a big enough name and Floyd will gain nothing and have everything to lose.

Interestingly, what I could see happening is Mayweather signing American hotshot Adrien Broner. This would make perfect sense. Broner is already under the Al Haymon banner and has no qualms about showing his admiration and support for Mayweather, the man he refers to a “big brother”.

This could potentially lead to a mouth-watering clash between Gamboa and Adrien Broner with the former best friends in each corner. That I’m sure would sell out any arena in the world. A very tight contest which I could see Broner winning and in turn would signal the passing of the torch from Mayweather.

One thing for sure this is only the beginning of the feud and I don’t see it slowing down anytime soon.
