Image: Huck wins another controversial decisionBy Allan Fox: Kallie Sauerland, the promoter for WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (35-2-1, 25 KO’s), is content with the controversial 12 round decision his fighter got over 42-year-old Firat Arslan (32-6-2, 21 KO’s) last Saturday night at the Gerry Weber Stadium, Halle, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.

Sauerland says that boxing experts chose Huck as deserving the win over Arslan despite a huge amount of fans thinking otherwise. Huck was given the scores of 115-113, 115-113 and 117-111 by the judges.

However, the controversy in the fight was due to many of Huck’s punches being blocked on the gloves of Arslan, as well as Arslan landing the cleaner shots in the fight. It’s hard to look at the bout closely without coming to the conclusion that Huck should have lost the fight.

Huck is no stranger to controversy having won a controversial 12 round split decision over Denis Lebedev in a fight Huck was dominated in two years ago, fighting to a draw against Ola Afolabi last May in a fight Huck appeared to lose and being given a 12 round majority decision over Vadim Tokarev in 2007 in a fight that Huck was completely dominated in.

That fight and the fight against Lebedev were totally one-sided with Huck getting battered but yet still getting the decision at the end. It’s hard to say why Huck is getting wins in fights he appears to lose. Perhaps the judges see different thing that normal boxing fans aren’t seeing. Whatever the case, Huck needs to raise his game because his career can’t be built on getting controversial decisions in fights that fans see him losing.

It doesn’t really matter that Huck’s promoter is saying that boxing experts chose Huck over Arslan in this fight. The fact is he’s winning fights that the boxing public doesn’t agree with, and that’s what really matters. Huck is got to better than this because it undermines his efforts if he’s seemingly betting beaten but then still winning.
