Hatton not looking good in getting ready for Senchenko

Image: Hatton not looking good in getting ready for SenchenkoBy Scott Gilfoid: Former two division world champion Ricky Hatton doesn’t look at all good in his recent workout video I saw of him at the BBC Sport as he gets ready for his November 24th fight against Vyacheslav Senchenko in Manchester, England. There’s a few things that really stood out from watching him starting with his skills.

Hatton looks a lot slower than he did years ago, and his timing and coordination seem way off. Hatton couldn’t hit the pads that his trainer was holding out and he looked completely exhausted and red in the face. Hatton’s skin also doesn’t look that good. He looks as if he’s aged something fierce, and the skin just hanging off of him the way it does for people that suddenly lose a dramatic amount of weight in a short period of time.

There’s folds of skin that are hanging off of his face and it makes Hatton look a lot older than his 34 years. I know the skin is just hanging there and there’s much he can do about it, but it kind of gives Hatton a hound dog appearance. I guess it doesn’t matter but it looks unhealthy as heck. When Hatton was interviewed, it sounded like Hatton’s voice had changed. I’m not sure if he has a cold or what but he sounded completely different from what I remember him.

The most worrisome thing about the video was how weak and slow Hatton looked. I remember how explosive he used to look years ago when he had decent power and speed, but those things look like they’re missing now. Hatton was hitting the pads and making the loud noises with his mouth, but the mitts weren’t making the same popping sound they used to and he didn’t look powerful at all. I don’t know how much strength he’s lost but he looks considerably weaker than he once was.

I can see Senchenko knocking Hatton out in this fight. Hatton isn’t going to give Senchenko any problems looking the way is now. I just hope Hatton doesn’t get hurt in this fight, because it’s already a terrible idea to come off of a 3 1/2 year retirement and take on a fighter like Senchenko straightaway. That’s a brilliantly bad move.
