Khan wants Danny Garcia and Hatton

By William Mackay: Amir Khan hasn’t even beaten the small 5’6″ opponent Carlos Molina (17-0, 7 KO’s) that his promoters have picked out for him to fight on December 15th and already Khan is looking past him towards a hoped for rematch against WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia, as well as a possible mega fight against Ricky Hatton.

Khan said to espn.co.uk “I want to get another crack at Danny Garcia to get my titles back. If I get that, then I’ll move up to 147. The Ricky Hatton fight is one that people keep talking about. I feel it can happen. Boxing is a business.”

I’m sure a Hatton-Khan can happen, but not if Khan faces Danny Garcia in a rematch first. If Khan fights Garcia again, he’s going to get knocked out a second time. Garcia simply has Khan’s number and they could fight 100 times and Garcia would likely KO Khan every time. However, if Golden Boy looks to milk Khan’s name by putting him in with more lightweights with no power like like Carlos Molina, then Khan can keep winning until Hatton is ready to fight him for a nice payday for both Khan and Hatton.

Like I said, for that to happen, Golden Boy will have to match Khan against easy marks for the next two to three fights while they wait for Hatton to build himself back up and possibly pick up the WBA World welterweight title off of paper champion Paulie Malignaggi. That would set things up perfectly for Khan to move up in weight and fight Hatton for his WBA title. Hatton has to win his fight next month against former WBA welterweight champ Vyacheslav Senchenko for the Khan-Hatton fight to move ahead. Hatton will likely retire if he’s soundly beaten by Senchenko, so a lot of things are riding on that fight.

Khan would be making a huge mistake if he faces Garcia a second time. Hopefully, Golden Boy talks him out of it because he’s not going to win that fight and will look silly if he gets knocked out a second time in a row.
