Would Froch have done any better against Ward than Dawson did last Saturday?

Image: Would Froch have done any better against Ward than Dawson did last Saturday?By Scott Gilfoid: Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) is taking a lot of stick for getting dominated and stopped by the talented WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (26-0, 14 KO’s) last Saturday night, but I think it’s kind of unfair to Dawson. Can you imagine anyone doing better than Dawson did?

For example, I think IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch would have been in the exact same boat at Dawson did last Saturday if it had been him in there with Ward.

I think you have to commend Dawson for doing as good a job as he did against Ward, because this special talent is the best in the world right now from 160 to 175 lbs. You blame Dawson for losing to a fighter as great as Ward, especially when Ward has been whipping the other top fighters in his weight class for the past three years.

I know Froch lasted 12 rounds against Dawson last December in losing to him by a 12 round decision in the Super Six tournament, but Ward has raised his game another level since then and gotten better, a lot better. If you put Froch in there with Ward in place of Dawson, it would be like feeding frenzy between a hungry shark in Ward ripping apart a snack. Froch probably wouldn’t have stood a chance either, and I think he would have been knocked out for the first time in his career. Ward is punching better now than he was in the past, because sitting down on his shots much better. He’d be teeing off on Froch if he got him in the ring.

The silence from Nottingham is deafening. I figured Froch would have made a public comment about Ward’s victory by perhaps by saying he’d like to try and avenge his defeat agaisnt the talented American. But Froch hasn’t said anything about wanting to get back in the ring with Ward.

I wonder why Froch’s not using this opportunity to challenge Ward? I mean, I think facing Ward, a guy that dominated him, is a much more meaningful fight than Froch fighting Yusaf Mack or Lucian Bute, don’t you think? Why face Bute or Mack when the guy that whipped him is still out there holding onto one of Froch’s belts, the WBC strap.
