Image: Hatton likes the idea of fighting Khan in near futureBy William Mackay: Former two division world champion Ricky Hatton isn’t about to let his close friendship with Amir Khan get in the way of fighting him in the near future if Hatton can pile up some victories in his comeback. He really likes the idea of mixing it up with Khan and thinks the fight would well in the UK in terms of fan interest.

Hatton first has to beat former WBA welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko in their fight on on November 24th in Manchester, England before he can start thinking about a Khan-Hatton fight.

Hatton said to the BBC Sport “I there’s a good chance of me fighting Amir Khan. Obviously, he’s the other big name in my division, but Amir’s at the top.”

Khan’s career isn’t exactly going swimmingly right now, and Hatton’s timing couldn’t be worse. Khan is one loss away from being knocked out top 15. A lot of boxing fans have already given up on Khan, and see him as a past his prime fighter following his consecutive losses in his last two fights. Right now, the last thing that Khan probably needs is a short inside fighter with good power giving him nightmares like Hatton would.

Khan pretty much established in his loss to Lamont Peterson that he can’t fight a lick on the inside and has to report to tricks like shoving, clinching and pulling down on his opponent’s heads to keep from being mauled in close.

Hatton is a lot better inside fighter than Peterson is, and he’s tear a hole through Khan’s midsection if they were to fight. The only thing that Hatton would have to worry about is trying to catch up to Khan, because you can bet that Khan’s new trainer Virgil Hunter would be giving Khan orders to move to keep away from Hatton’s continuous pressure.
