Danny Garcia looking to beat Erik Morales even more impressively than last time

By Allan Fox: WBA World light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (24-0, 15 KO’s) will be looking to build on the last impressive performance in beating Erik Morales (52-8, 36 KO’s) by beating him even worse in their rematch on October 20th on HBO at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, United States. Garcia, 24, beat Morales by a 12 round unanimous decision last March in a fight that was pretty much an easy one for Garcia.

It looked like he was coasting in the last half of the fight, looking as if he were carrying the aging Morales in order to take it easy on him so he wouldn’t get embarrassed. The only times that Garcia really pressed Morales in that fight was when he would get hit with some hard jabs or power shots. Garcia would then respond with some hard combinations or left hooks that would quiet Morales down completely.

This time Garcia wants to destroy Morales early by going after him to get him out of there as early as possible. Garcia isn’t happy with the way that Morales didn’t shake his hand after losing to him and he didn’t like the way that Morales didn’t give him any credit for beating him.

Garcia looked great in his last fight in beating former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan by a 4th round TKO last July. It was the perfect performance by Garcia, who landed a picturesque left hook to the neck of Khan in the 3rd that seemed to rattle Khan’s brain, sending him to the canvas for a knockdown. Garcia then really went after Knan in the next round and was able to finish him off after knocking him down twice. That performance showed that Garcia has the killer instinct and can finish off an opponent when he’s got him hurt.

This is something he’ll need to do against Morales on October 20th, because he can’t leave Morales out there for the full 12 because his jab is so good and his power shots are also good enough to cause him a lot of trouble. Garcia suffered a broken nose the last time he fought Morales after getting hit with too many stiff jabs. This is why Garcia has to really go after Morales to try and get him out of there quickly so that he can save himself from having to take too much punishment from the former four division world champion.
