Roach offering Pacquiao bonus money if he can knockdown sparring partners to get ready for Marquez

By Chris Williams: In a way to try and wake up his sagging fighter Manny Pacquiao to try and bring back some youth and vitality to his workouts, trainer Freddie Roach is reportedly offering Pacquiao $1000 each time he knocks one of his sparring partners down in getting ready for Pacquiao’s December 8th fight against Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Roach said this as quoted by Examiner.com writer Michael Marley: “This camp I will pull a switch. I will offer Manny $1000 out of my own pocket every time he knocks a spar-mate on his a**.”

With Pacquiao getting in the neighborhood of a $25 million guarantee for this fight, I somehow doubt that Roach waving $1000 over his head will get Pacquiao to step it up another gear so that he can knock around the sparring partners. That’s probably realistic because Pacquiao doesn’t like to beat up on his sparring partners. He seems to get friendly with them quickly and seems to hold back on them instead of looking to go for the kill.

It would be good for Pacquiao if he could go all out against his sparing partners because he really needs to build up his endurance so that he can fight hard for three minutes of every round instead of being limited to working hard the last part of each round. Pacquiao’s stamina problems could be the result of him taking it easy on his sparring partners instead of looking to KO them like Roach want shim to.

It’s also as if the only way that Roach might be able to get Pacquiao go all out if if he throws two sparring partners in there with him at the same time. That’s a joke. But seriously Pacquiao needs to work harder if he wants to keep from getting outworked by Marquez on December 8th. I really think that Marquez may get the decision this time if he beats Pacquiao as bad as he did in the three previous fights.
