Bradley wants Mayweather next

Image: Bradley wants Mayweather nextBy Chris Williams: Now that WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (29-0, 12 KO’s) has been rejected as a potential opponent for Manny Pacquiao, Bradley is now setting his sights on a fight against unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s), who doesn’t have an opponent picked out yet for his next fight.

Bradley said to RingTV “So how about Floyd Mayweather? I guess that Manny’s fighting a guy that really beat him [Juan Manuel Marquez], and Floyd’s already beaten the guy [Marquez] that is getting the next fight with Manny. So the only guys that’s left is Tim Bradley. So, Floyd, let’s do it.”

I would say that Bradley would have a halfway decent chance of getting the Mayweather fight, because after all it’s an easy fight for Mayweather and a chance to show how much better he is than Pacquiao by beating the guy that just beat him. However, Bradley is one of Bob Arum’s Top Rank stable fighters and that probably eliminates about any chance that Bradley would have in fighting Mayweather. While I think there’s a small chance of the fight taking place, I wouldn’t consider it a big enough possibility for Bradley to get his hopes up. There’s too bad blood between them, and I can’t see Mayweather taking that fight and allowing Arum to be involved.

Even if Mayweather was slightly intrigued at the idea of fighting Bradley, I think Bradley and Arum would likely mess things up by asking for a 50-50 purse split. Mayweather would walk off shaking his head and probably realizing that there’s next to no chance of him ever facing Arum’s main cash cow fighter Pacquiao.

If Bradley wanted to fight Mayweather, he’d have to likely settle for a 70-30 or 80-20 split with Mayweather getting the large end. I can’t even see Bradley getting a 30% cut, not after the low pay per view numbers that his recent fight against Pacquiao brought in last June.
