Steward: Wach will have the mentality of a winner when he meets Wladimir

By Jason Kim: Emanuel Steward is a little apprehensive about IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (58-3, 51 KO’s) taking on the unbeaten #4 WBC Mariusz Wach (27-0, 15 KO’s) on November 10th in Hamburg, Germany. What bothers Steward most of all, besides Wach’s huge 6’7 1/2″ frame, is the confidence that he’ll be coming into the fight with due to him being an unbeaten fighter.

Steward said to Fightsaga.com “Wach will not only be the biggest opponent Wladimir has fought since we’ve been together, he will also have the mentality of an undefeated fighter when he steps into the ring.”

I’m not sure that the confidence that the 32-year-old Wach will bring into the fight will have much of a bearing on the fight. Wach looked pretty timid in his last fight against 6’8″ Tye Fields and was taking some serious punishment from Fields until catching him with a big right hand in the 6th and then quickly – if you want to call it that – finishing him off. Wach looked anything but quick in landing a handful of big right hands to chop down the hurt Fields.

Wladimir should be able to win this fight no mater what state of mind that Wach has. Wach could be hypnotized into thinking he’s the greatest heavyweight ever, and he’d still have a lot of problems against the more naturally talented and much more experienced Wladimir.

Steward said “Wladimir told me that there really was no one else available to fight.”

That’s pretty sad that the best that Wladimir could get was a fight against the inexperienced Wach, because there are a lot of other heavyweights with much more seasoning that should have been willing to step up and take the fight with Wladimir on November 10th. That’s the problem Wladimir has been facing for a while now. He’s just so dominating right now that few of the other top contenders want to step inside the ring and take him on.
