Image: Froch to reveal mystery opponent on TuesdayBy Scott Gilfoid: This Tuesday, IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) and his promoter Eddie Hearn from Matchroom Sport will finally be revealing who the lucky opponent will be for Froch’s next fight on November 17th at the Capital FM Arena, in Nottingham, England.

Hearn and Froch were supposed to have revealed who’s going to get the fight last Monday, but the fighter that they were interested in facing – light heavyweight Yusaf Mack – decided not to take the fight.

Hearn then postponed the big announcement for another week until Tuesday, August 28th, at which point he’s supposed to finally give boxing fans the name for Froch’s next opponent. But I’d be willing to bet that we could see Hearn say that he’ll need yet another week before he can reveal who the guy will be.

As you would guess, they’re likely working way down the food chain and will almost surely end up with a sorry option for Froch to fight in front of his loving and loyal Brits in Nottingham. It hardly matters. Froch could fight almost anyone and his fans would turn up in high numbers to cheer him on. However, I would never go to a fight if it was a mismatch because it’s not worth it.

Heck, you pay out the nose to get some tickets, go through the hassle of weaving in and out of traffic to get to the fight, then have to pay a bunch of cash just to park your car. You go in and sit down and Froch beats up some poor fringe level opponent in one or two rounds. I call that hardly entertaining. Then you have to come back to your car and hope that no one has given you a door ding or broken into your car while you were gone.

Then on the way home you have to dodge drunks on the road just to try and make it home in one piece. If you’re going to go through all that hassle and expense then the least that Froch and Hearn can do for you is to pick out a high quality opponent for Froch to fight so that the boxing fans get their money’s worth.

I hear Andre Dirrell is free. Froch and Hearn should try and sign him up before someone else gets to him beforehand. Froch still haven’t erased the stink from his controversial 12 round split decision win over Dirrell from 2009. This would be a great opportunity for him to do so.
