Now that Floyd Mayweather is back to business

Image: Now that Floyd Mayweather is back to businessBy Babatis Banda: Unlike the rumors, the bad wishes and the downright hurting of this man when he was in incarceration, he has come out looking healthier than expected. He looked well-muscled and bigger than he went in. Now that he is back, he has again awakened big boxing talk as to who he will fight next, or when he will step in the ring.

I see that Floyd has an array of options. Pacquiao is in the process of picking his opponent, but whoever it will be, Floyd has better options.

If Pacquiao decides to go after Bradley to avenge his loss, Floyd has Alvarez or Cotto to pick at. Days are long gone, when you could pit a ‘banana’ against Pacquiao and still have good sales. In my opinion, Pacquiao can no longer attract a big following outside of his traditional home support. Pacquiao’s last three or so fights have really been below expected standard and did not correspond to the hype either. The magic has clearly gone.
If for whatever reason, Pacquiao chooses Marquez or Cotto, Bradley could be a perfect target for Mayweather.

We know that Mayweather could have an easy feast off Bradley, and a once Pacquiao belt as a bonus. I have a strong feeling that Mayweather/Bradley can sell better numbers than Pacquiao/Bradley did. Even when Floyd is less loved than his nemesis Pacquiao, Floyd commands good PPV sales because people will pay to either see him win, or see him lose. People pay to watch Pacquiao win because of the kind of his fan base, his kinsmen.

Now that Mayweather Jr is back to business, the sport that was in a temporary lull is awake again with speculation and expectancy. The hard-core boxing fans can hardly wait to see who Mayweather’s next victim is. Personally, I see Mayweather walking away at 47-0. Just like he said, ‘this sport will not retire me, I will retire from the sport’. This is a statement of a sane mind in my view.
