Instead of asking a bunch of sappy questions about their personal lives like he sometimes does, Kellerman kept the face off strictly on boxing and let the two fighters do much of the talking, which was good because Kellerman can be a real buzz kill when he starts with the sappy questions that don’t relate to boxing.

Here’s some of the back and forth that went on between Chavez Jr. and Martinez in hyping their September 15th pay per view fight on HBO:

Martinez: “I am going to knockout a Mexican and I will reconquer my title.”

Chavez Jr: “If I win, what are you going to say?

Martinez: [Looking as if he’s losing patience with Chavez Jr] “I just told you how it will go down. It’s a matter of logic.”

Chavez Jr: “No, logic in boxing doesn’t happen.”

Martinez: “It does with me.”

Kellerman: “Do you think you can knockout Julio Cesar Chavez Jr?”

Martinez: “I’m totally convinced. I don’t see a different ending to this fight. Chavez Jr will hit the canvas, he will be sitting in his corner or with the doctor or referee stopping the fight. There are no other outcomes.”

Kellerman to Chavez Jr: “How to do you keep Sergio Martinez off of you.”

Chavez Jr: “He won’t bring too much pressure. His best punch is a straight left to the stomach. [Martinez looks at Chavez Jr in disbelief at this point, as if wondering who Chavez Jr. is talking about]. And with that punch, little by little, he weakens his opponents.”

Kellerman to Chavez Jr: “Do you think you can knockout Sergio?”

Chavez Jr: “Of course I can knock him out.”

Martinez: “You’re living in a delusion.”

Chavez Jr: “I’ve exceeded my expectations. Nobody thought I would be champion. Nobody thought I could fight great fighters. Everyone underestimated me. I have shown with facts that I can fight the best in boxing.”

Martinez: “How many great ones has he fought? How many? With Freddie Roach, [he’ll] make him fight with more intelligence and not like a typical Mexican that just attacks 100 percent.”
