Image: Broner: Nobody can beat meBy Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten former WBO super featherweight champion Adrien Broner (24-0, 20 KO’s) is moving up in weight for his next fight against a still to be determined opponent in November. Broner, 23, was supposed to be fighting in October, but his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions are having difficulties finding somebody suitable that HBO will agree on.

You never like to see that because it suggests that Golden Boy is digging for low level guys to put in with Broner. HBO can’t afford to keep showing Broner’s fights if all Golden Boy is going to do is put him in with guys that basically have no chance against him like Vicente Escobedo, Eloy Perez and Vicente Martin Rodriguez. Broner needs a talented fighter so that HBO doesn’t end up with low ratings each time one of his fights are televised.

Broner said on his twitter recently “Nobody will beat me.”

He’s probably right, but how can anyone beat him if his promoters won’t match him against someone that is actually any good. He’s moved to the lightweight division where there are only like two or three guys that really matter in that division. Broner isn’t going to become a pay per view star if he persists in staying in the division because it lacks names and casual boxing fans don’t follow that division all that closely.

Broner needs to move up in weight to the light welterweight division at the very least if he wants to have a chance of becoming a PPV star and for him to get good fights. Broner will never be a star if he’s stuck at lightweight because there’s just no one at that weight that boxing fans really care all that much about.

For Broner’s fight in November, he likely will miss out on fights against Miguel Vazquez, Antonio DeMarco and Ricky Burns because all three of them are busy of coming off of recent fights. Burns would be a decent fight, but he has a bout on September 22nd against Kevin Mitchell and he’s not going to get back in the ring so soon after that fight to face a dangerous opponent like Broner.
