By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten Kell Brook (27-0, 18 KO’s) and highly ranked American Carson Jones (34-8-2, 24 KO’s) both made weight for their 147 pound clash on Saturday at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, UK. Brook weighed in a half pound under the welterweight limit at 146.7 during Friday’s weigh-in, while Jones came in a little lighter at 146.5.

Jones looked in excellent shape and ready to tear the Brit’s head off during their stare down.

Both fighters jawed at one another when they came head to head, and Brook looked unnerved by the cool and calm Jones’ trash talking. You could see who the more confident fighter was between the two and it was Jones by a mile. Brook looked infuriated, as if this wasn’t what he had bargained for from this fight. It’s sort of understandable given all the weak opponents that have been fed to Brook through much of his career.

When you get used to guys just coming in and not having much of a chance, it’s kind of an eye opener when suddenly you’re finally put in with the real thing. This is going to be interesting to see if the highly hyped Brook will be able to sink or swim on Saturday.

Brook said this about Jones as quoted by fightnews.com “Every time we meet I dislike him more and I can’t wait to knock him out tomorrow.”

My, my, look at how upset Brook is. I sure hope he doesn’t blow a rod before or during the fight. I’d hate to see him go to pieces mentally under the strain of facing a live opponent for a change.

In other weights on the undercard:

Kerry Hope 159.4 – Greg Proksa 159.4
Gavin Rees 134.75 – Derry Mathews 135
