Danny Garcia an option for Kell Brook’s next fight

By Jeff Aronow: Danny Garcia has been given an offer to face Kell Brook in his next fight. The former two-division world champion Garcia (36-3, 21 KOs) has already expressed interest in facing Brook (40-3, 28 KOs), but it remains to be seen if he’ll agree to the offer.

Danny ‘Swift’ hasn’t fought since losing a 12 round decision to Errol Spence Jr. in December 2020. On Friday, Danny named Brook, Keith Thurman, and Mikey Garcia as three options he was interested in his next fight.

Brook’s promote Ben Shalom says he’s given offers to a couple of other fighters as well. Middleweight contender Chris Eubank Jr. seems to be the guy that is in the lead position to get the fight with Brook, but that’ll depend on how things go with the negotiations.

For Eubank Jr. to get the fight with Brook, a proper catchweight will need to be agreed to, and it’s going to be complicated to come to a weight that makes sense.

Eubank Jr. fought many years at 168, and it would be difficult for him to get down to anywhere near 154.

“Kell doesn’t need to do anything. Everyone wants to fight Kell because he’s the main man right now after what happened, so we’ll see,” said promoter Ben Shalom to iFL TV. “If the weight is right and he feels comfortable at the weight, then the Eubank Jr fight could happen in the summer at Bramhall Lane.

“It’s a massive fight, but it has to be right for Kell. He’s never going to do anything that’s not right,” said Shalom.

“I’m going to talk to Ben later, and we’re going to see what we’re talking about and what we do,” said Kell Brook. “Listen, I’m a fighter and I perform. You seen me perform last time, and that’s how I perform like.

“Listen, we don’t like each other, me and Eubank. So, let’s see what we do.  He must be crazy,” said Brook when told that Amir Khan has invoked his rematch clause.

“It wasn’t like it was half and half even. It was one-sided in my opinion,” said Brook about his sixth-round knockout win over Amir Khan last month on February 19th.

“If he wants to do that come see me. I think so,” said Brook when asked if Khan invoked the rematch clause so that he could get some step aside money. Like I said, I’m a fighter and the fights there,” said Brook.

“He has to prove that it’s not about money and that he was injured and all these things. He has a lot to prove,” said Shalom said about Khan.

“If he wants to fight again, I don’t think it’ll be Kell Brook because let’s be honest as fans, it doesn’t make sense right now. It’s up to Kell what he does. We put offers into Danny Garcia, and we feel that’s a great fight.

“There are one or two other options, but I can’t say what they are, to be honest. He’s [Brook] got loads of options, he’s the king of 147, especially in the UK.

“There are so many guys at welterweight, and Kell wants one last dance, maybe two, but it will have to be right for Kell. If he retires now, I think nobody can blame him,” said Shalom.

“Listen, I’m a fighter and I want to be in those fights to provide for the fans. I’ve always wanted to be in the Amir Khan fight. It was taken away for a long time, but Ben delivered that fight. He can make those big fights happen, so I’m excited.

“This is my promoter, and let’s see what we can come up with and we’ll have a dance together,” said Brook about a fight against Eubank Jr.
