Other than that, there’s no one at lightweight that hang with Broner. Marquez isn’t even ranked in the lightweight division anymore, as he’s moved up in weight to light welterweight and currently holds the WBO light welterweight title. He’s not going to go back down in weight to fight Broner, not at this point in his career. Marquez wants the big cash and Broner isn’t quite there year.

Broner recently took apart Vincente Escobedo, his number #1 challenger, by a 5th round TKO last Saturday night in Cincinnati, Ohio. Broner easily beat a fighter that guys like Robert Guerrero and Michael Katsidis had to toil away to win by decisions. Broner simply overpowered Escobedo, breaking his nose and battering him from start to finish.

Jeff Mayweather agrees that Broner’s style is very similar to Floyd Jr., but he doesn’t see him quite there yet. But he does see Broner getting better and better to where he’s going to be the next super star in the sport within a short period of time.

Broner is scheduled to fight on October 6th against an opponent still to be determined. He wants to take on the best fighters at lightweight, calling out Brandon Rios, Marquez and Antonio DeMarco. However, he’s likely to get get none of those fighters for his next bout because they’re all busy already.
