Did 50 Cent make a mistake by signing Billy Dib?

By Scott Gilfoid: 50 Cent did a great job of adding two quick talented fighters Andre Dirrell and Yuriorkis Gamboa to his TMT Promotions stable recently. I mean, those two fighters are a strong foundation that 50 Cent [Curtis Jackson] and Floyd Mayweather Jr. can use to create a talented stable. However, 50 Cent now has reported signed IBF featherweight champion Billy Dib (35-1, 21 KO’s) to the TMT Promotions team, and I think he missed by a mile with this pick.

Dib may be a champion, but he’s not considered to be among the true best in the division, and I don’t see him being much better than what he showed in getting schooled completely by Steven Luevano in 2008. Luevano in turn was destroyed by Juan Manuel Lopez and he then subsequently retired from the sport.

The thing with Dib is that he hasn’t fought anyone that you could call good since then. He’s won his last 15 fights, but he’s not faced anyone really good. To his credit, Dib is fighting contenders, but he’s not taking on guys like Jhonny Gonzalez, Celestino Caballero, Orlando Salido, Juan Manuel Lopez, Mikey Garcia, Juan Carlos Burgos, Elio Rojas, Daniel Ponce De Leon, Yonathan Barros, Rafael Marquez, Luis Franco…etc.

I’m just wondering how long Dib can go before he faces one of those fighters. How he went four years without fighting at least one of those guys is beyond me. I’ve frankly never heard of the guys that Dib has fought to tell you the truth. It’s great that Dib has lucked out with the International Boxing Federation ranking all those guys, but this guy is going to be in deep, deep trouble once he fights someone good and I don’t see how 50 Cent will be able to change what will happen to Dib.
