dib543By Sevak Sarkisian: On July 5th fight fans will be treated to an exciting fight card from Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford Connecticut. This will be the first fight card that 50 Cents promotional company (SMS Promotions) will be putting on by themselves without other co-promoters.

It will be aired live on ESPN 2 9pm ET. The main event will feature former world featherweight titlist Billy “The Kid” Dib (35-2-21KO’s) against the experienced Mike Oliver (25-3-8KO’s).

Billy Dib has above average hand speed and moves around the ring very well. Dib is also a durable fighter with a good chin. He is in his physical prime at the age of 27 and is the fresher of the two fighters.

Dib also carries a big heart with him into the ring and is a determined little fighter. He also seems like he’s physically a little bigger than Oliver. However, it has to be noted that both fighters are natural featherweights and it’s their optimal weight class.

Mike Oliver is a very experienced fighter with an extensive amateur back round. He has good hand speed and fights out of the southpaw stance. He can fight in an awkward style at times and can make the fight messy as he did against Juan Manuel Lopez. However, Oliver doesn’t have a sturdy chin, he has been knocked out three times. He is also passed his prime which was around 2006.

Billy Dib has to make an impressive showing against Oliver after his failed title defense in his last fight. Losing two in a row is not the best way to start with your new promoter. A shot Juanma Lopez was able to make quick work out of Oliver in 2011. Dib should look to get a stoppage win in order to make a statement in my humble opinion.
