Haye will have too much speed for Chisora

Image: Haye will have too much speed for ChisoraBy Sean McDaniel: Next month former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye and Dereck Chisora will be battling it out on July 14th at Upton Park in their non-title bout on BoxNation. This is the fight that the WBC and the British Boxing Board of Control have been against from day one, but it’s going to happen whether they like it or not.

The two fighters had a dry rehearsal for this bout last February when Haye got the drop on the slower, larger Chisora by cold-cocking him with a right hand to the chin followed by some chopping elbows that sent Chisora to the floor. Haye then jumped on top of him and the two briefly wrestled. But in the brief altercation between Haye and Chisora, one got the feel that Haye will have too much speed for Chisora when it comes down to the real thing on July 14th.

Chisora is probably tailor made for Haye, because of his tendency to throw slow, wide shots rather than straight punches. Chisora lacks a jab, so he won’t be able to keep Haye on the outside when he chooses to make his attacks. What Chisora is really good at is fighting on the inside, and that’s something that won’t help him at all against Haye because he doesn’t ever fight on the inside. If Haye does fight in close, he’s ending the fight because he’s incredibly dangerous when he does let his hands go in close. I don’t see Chisora coming out the better if Haye decides to unload on him with a 15 punch flurry in close.

With Haye’s speed and power, Chisora will go down whether he likes it or not.

Haye has the advantage with the physical tools in this fight. All Chisora has in the size, and that’s probably not going to help him. Chisora will outweigh Haye by at least 20 to 25 pounds in this fight, but Haye is going to be like Jack Dempsey. He’s going to be a punching machine and it won’t matter if Chisora weighs more than him or not. Haye will be all fists and a blur for the slower Chisora.
