Image: Broner to prove he's the best at 130lbs by destroying EscobedoBy Scott Gilfoid: WBO super featherweight champion Adrien Broner (23-0, 19 KO’s) will be showing his talent next month against #1 WBO contender Vicente Escobedo (26-3, 15 KO’s) on July 21st in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Unfortunately, Escobedo is the best thing could dig up for the 22-year-old talent, because I was hoping they’d match Broner up with someone with some actual talent instead of one of Michael Katsidis’ past victims. You can’t blame it on Broner for facing this guy.

You got to blame it on the World Boxing Organization for giving Escobedo such an inflated ranking based on nothing wins. He’s beaten some guys but no one nearly good enough to warrant a #1 ranking. This is going to be sickeningly one-sided from start to the bitter finish with Escobedo laying bloody and battered on the canvas wondering what hit him.

Broner has beaten all the top fighters that he’s faced during his career. With his Mayweather-esque talent, he’s blown away guys like Eloy Perez, Jason Litzau and totally dominated Daniel Ponce De Leon. Broner wanted to fight Ricky Burns, but Burns decided to move up in weight right when Broner was scheduled to face him. As it turns out, it might have been the smartest move that Burns has ever made in his career, because Broner would have knocked him cold and given him a major whipping in the process.

I wish Escobedo was good enough to give Broner some rounds, because I’m getting tired of watching Broner knock guys out so quickly. I can’t even enjoy Broner’s talent when he keeps blasting everyone out so quickly. It’s not as interesting because I can’t see enough of the guy.

I want Broner to carry Escobedo for seven or eight rounds on July 21st, and just give him a methodical beating so that the fans can have more time to savor Broner’s talent.
