Wladimir not pleased with Chisora-Haye fight taking place

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitshko is up in arms at the news of the July 14th mega fight between David Haye and Dereck Chisora at Upton Park. Wladimir doesn’t think the fight should take place due to neither fighter having their boxing license with the British Boxing Board of Control.

Wladimir said to BBC Sport “It’s a freak show under freak rules. It’s a spit in the face of the British Boxing Board of Control. To get a licence for this man [Chisora] is disgraceful for the sport. How can you have such an event featuring a man who has shown his behavior to the world, especially considering what he did at the press conference, where he threatened Haye?”

Wladimir needs to put a sock in it. Boxing fans don’t care who sanctions the fight, as long as the fight takes place. Besides, the well respected Luxembourg Boxing Federation will be sanctioning the fight, and that’s good enough for me – and for boxing fans. Do you honestly think fans give two figs whether the BBBofC sanctions it or the Luxembourg Boxing Federation? Wladimir is missing the point. This is good fight, and it’s one that will help set up a big fight between the winner and either Wladimir or his brother Vitali Klitschko. Wladimir obviously is still feeling peeved due to Chisora spitting water in his face before the Chisora-Vitali fight last February. Yeah, I can imagine that would get Wladimir upset, but he should have done something at the time instead of just taking it.

The Chisora-Haye fight probably wouldn’t have been sanctioned by the BBBofC anyway because Chisora had his license taken away by them for his behavior before and after the Vitali fight. It’s not like Chisora was going to get his license back by those guys, and he can’t wait for the rest of his life for them to finally give it back to him. Chisora might as well do anything he can to continue his career.

I’m totally in favor of this fight taking place and I’m giving Haye a good chance of winning it. The only question here is how will Haye, a 217 pound heavyweight at best, deal with a naturally big heavyweight like the 245 pound Chisora? Haye will be facing a super heavyweight and that’ll be tough on him if he tries to stand and trade. Haye will be giving away as much as he was in his fight last July against Wladimir, a fight that Haye lost by a lopsided 12 round decision. However, it’s not as if Chisora is pure muscle, though. He’s got a lot of useless fat on his frame that won’t help him against Haye. He’s also a lot slower than Haye, and not even close to being as athletic as him.
