Image: Hearn: Brook would fight Malignaggi in U.S or in the UKBy William Mackay: Showing that he’s flexible in terms of where the fight would take place, Matchroom Sports Promoter Eddie Hearn said that his unbeaten fighter Kell Brook (27-0, 18 KO’s) would take a fight against new champion WBA World welterweight title holder Paulie Malignaggi (31-4, 7 KO’s) in the UK or the United States just as long as Brook got the title shot.

Hearn said on his twitter “My twitter going mad for Special K Brook v Pauli M Fight – We’d have that all day long home or away. Let’s see how that plays out.”

Good luck, you’re going to need it. Malignaggi isn’t going to take on a dangerous contender in his first defense of his belt, especially one that isn’t well known like Brook and who doesn’t promise to bring in a lot of attention. Brook is capable of fighting in front of large crowds in the UK, but Malignaggi isn’t going to take his chances fighting Brook there and risk getting robbed by the judges. If the fight can be made, it will take place in the United States so that Malignaggi can take advantage of one of the giant sports networks HBO or Showtime.

Malignaggi defeated WBA champion Vyacheslav Senchenko by a 9th round TKO on Sunday night to snatch up the World Boxing Association title. It was one of Malignaggi’s best performances in quite some time as he used his speed to land sharp right hands all night long, swelling up Sechenko’s left eye. The fight was eventually halted due to Senchenko’s left eye swelling shut, making him nearly defenseless.

Brook needs a big fight like the Malignaggi bout because Brook has been shielded for much of his career and has still never faced a good welterweight. Malignaggi would be the best guy he’s faced and it would be interesting to see how Brook reacts to getting clobbered by Malignaggi.
