Calzaghe: It’s going to be tough for Froch against Bute

Image: Calzaghe: It's going to be tough for Froch against ButeBy Scott Gilfoid: Former 168 pound world champion Joe Calzaghe seems to know what Carl Froch (28-2, 20 KO’s) is up against in his May 26th fight against IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (30-0, 24 KO’s), and he feels Froch is still going to have tremendous problems against the Romanian.

Calzaghe said to thesun.co.uk “He’s [Froch] got what he deserves – a big fight in Nottingham – but it’s going to be a tough fight for him.”

Calzaghe goes on to say that the only way that Froch can win this fight is if he can “Drag him [Bute] into a war.”

That’s some crummy advice if you ask me. Here’s my take on this: If Froch tries to brawl with Bute, he’s going to end up face down on the canvas out cold or worse, laying on the canvas in a fetal position holding his bread basket gasping for breath from having it knocked out of him by a big Bute body shot. No, the only way Froch can survive this fight on his feet is to play it safe on the outside like he did against Arthur Abraham. That may save Froch being knocked out, but he’ll still lose the fight.

At least Froch could crow after the fight that he didn’t get knocked out and that he should have won the fight. But if he goes and brawls with Bute, he’ll get hit with a shot to the midsection that he won’t see coming and will be powerless to stop.

Heck, even if Froch does see the shot coming, he won’t be able to handle the power. I see him going down from a hard body shot whether he’s ready to take it or not. Bute hits too hard and Froch is just too wide open for bread basket punches as well head shots. Bute is going to have a field day on May 26th in Nottingham. I just hope there’s no funny stuff where Froch gets a long count after he hits the canvas. That would be awful.

Also, if I were Bute, I’d make a quick b-line to the exit as soon as I KO Froch just in case an angry fan decides to brain him with a projectile. There’s going to be a lot of routy Froch fans in the audience at the Nottingham Arena and I’m sure they won’t be too pleased to see their hero Froch flattened bt Bute.
