The fight could be put together by the end of this week.

The fight will take place at 168 with possibly both Ward’s two titles on the line for the fight. Ward recently was moved to Champion in Recess by the WBC. However, with Anthony Dirrell having fractured one of his arms and legs in a motorcycle accident, Ward has now been reinstated as the WBC champion by the World Boxing Council, meaning that the WBC title will likely be up for grabs for the Dawson fight.

Ward hasn’t fought since last December when he easily defeated WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch by a 12 round unanimous decision in a one-sided fight from start to finish. Ward was hoping to get a big fight coming off of that win. However, nothing has fallen into his lap until Dawson showed interest.

Dawson, 29, defeated Bernard Hopkins recently by a 12 round decision to capture his WBC 175 pound title. However, with few appealing options for big fights in the light heavyweight division, Dawson turned his attention to Ward at 168, calling him out and saying he’d be willing to move down to that weight class in order to make the fight happen. Ward was immediately interested in taking the fight, and here we are about to see a huge fight between arguably the best fighter from the 168 pound division in Ward, and the best fighter at 175 with Dawson.

Ward would have a slight advantage in hand speed, but Dawson is the bigger and stronger fighter of the two. Dawson is the better outside fighter, whereas Ward is clearly superior on the inside.
