His left hook, which is arguably Wladimir’s most powerful punch, was rarely used in the fight and was when it was, Wladimir threw mainly to the body.

However, in their upcoming rematch on July 7th in Switzerland, Wladimir is going to have to use his left hand more for throwing power shots because Thompson seemed to figure out early last time they fought that Wladimir was only going to use his right hand.

Even Lennox Lewis, who was working the fight as analyst, was wondering why Wladimir wasn’t opening up his arsenal more by throwing different kinds of punches instead of just the jab and right hand. It was all pretty predictable and it likely resulted in the 6’5″ Thompson being able to hang around a lot longer than he should have until the 11th, when Wladimir was able to take him out with a straight right hand to the head. There were no left hooks involved with the finishing punch and by then in the fight Thompson was just exhausted. Wladimir tackled Thompson in the previous round, injuring Thompson’s right leg in the fall.

This time out Wladimir needs to be lot more determined and to fight with more intensity by throwing left hooks. He can’t leave Thompson in there as long as he did last time. Wladimir ended up getting cut up by allowing Thompson to stick around so long in the fight.
